Video: ‘R1p City,’ a rap song about the Portland Trail Blazers

, on December 16, 2013 , 3:00PM

I literally cannot name a single rapper from Portland or the state of Oregon, so this Blazers anthem, “R1p City” by Speedygunz, may very well be the best rap song to ever come out of Stumptown. That’s not to say it’s particularly good or that the beat wouldn’t be better served in the hands of RiFF RaFF so that he can make incredibly-dated-but-still-hilarious sports references, but it definitely is to say that this rap song about the Trail Blazers came from Portland. That alone makes it notable; everything else is just gravy.

On Monday’s live episode of The Starters, the guys discuss the Suns’ potent Dragic/Bledsoe backcourt, Damian Lillard’s slick game-winner, the J.R. Smith/Mike Woodson “heated exchange,” Pau Gasol’s production, sad Z-Bo, and Hooper’s rough weekend.

All that, plus leopard-print pants and Roy Hibbert’s unfortunate Bengay accident.

Danny Green standing with Jimmy Goldstein while wearing a Jimmy Goldstein t-shirt

Whoa. So meta. Plus, if you look closely, you can see that the little Jimmy Goldstein on Danny Green’s t-shirt is wearing a t-shirt of Danny Green wearing a Jimmy Goldstein t-shirt.

No, not really. Don’t strain your eyes. One “Inception”-y t-shirt joke is enough. Two is overkill and you might get stuck in limbo, having to play tops for the rest of your days. No thanks.

Shoutout: New King Rudy Gay went for 26 points on 10-20 shooting in his home debut, leading Sacramento to a big win over the Rockets. Considering what he did in his first game in Toronto, I don’t necessarily think Kings fans should start buying playoff tickets, but it’s still a nice way to say hello.

Not so much: Zero points on 0-3 shooting in 19 minutes for Kevin Martin. He’s been battling a knee injury and the Timberwolves won, so no big deal. Just an ugly stat line.

Crossies: It took an extra five minutes, but this shot from Damian Lillard won the Blazers their 10th straight road game.

Just 6-21 shooting on the night for Lillard, but he was 1-for-1 on game-winning jumpers in overtime, so I’m guessing people are going to let that one slide.
